Checking In On Philly Cooks!

philly cooks.JPGPhiladelphia Magazine's Philly Cooks! is underway, and the 2009 winners have been announced:

• Dish of the Year: Chef Brian Wilson, Le Castagne.
• Best Appetizer: Chef David Boyle, Davios
• Best Entree: Chef & Owner Walter Staib, City Tavern
• Best Dessert: Chef Rosario Romano, Ristorante Panorama

All of the nearly 50 participating restaurants have their $75 prix fixe for two menus up over here. For those interested in taking Philly Cooks! to the next level, there's always the option of the one-night-only Chef's Tables, which are more expensive, but are full-on tasting menus that include wine pairings, and also benefit the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House.

Best dish winner Le Castagne still has tickets available for their Chef's Table this Friday, February 27, as does best dessert winner Ristoranta Panorama. Bistro Cassis, Bourbon Blue, Rouge, Standing O, and new kid in town, Union Trust, are the other restaurants that still have openings for their Chef's Tables. Tickets can be purchased here.

If none of those Chef's Tables tempt you, the $75 prix fixe dinner options are more plentiful (and are also more flexible since they aren't tied to a specific night and time). Time is of the essence though: table availability aside, Philly Cooks! ends this Friday.
