Stephen Starr Officially Not Buying Broad Street Diner
After signing an agreement of sale last June, it turns out that Stephen Starr will definitely not purchase the Broad Street Diner. The deal has collapsed because of those rumored environmental issues and Broad Street Diner is back on the market for $1.85 million (down from the $1.9 million that Starr was willing to spend).
Back in October, Starr had two projects in the books: Broad Street Diner and something in the Letto Deli space at 13th and Chancellor. The Letto Deli deal fell through in December, while Broad Street Diner had been looking unlikely for the past few months. Guess this means that neither the pizza/wine/beer/gourmet burger spot, nor the tiny, chef-driven restaurant will be happening, although given how bullish Starr has been these past few months, we won't be surprised if these ideas are revived — just in other locations.
In the meantime, what will happen to the Broad Street Diner? $1.85 million in March 2009 is much higher than $1.9 million in late spring 2008, and if Starr didn't want to take on the environmental obstacles, will anyone else?
