Boozy Milkshakes and Chicken Burgers at P.Y.T.

Behold, the Chicken Burger

Are you wondering what the chicken burger will look like at P.Y.T., the burger and shake joint that party promoter and Philadelphia bon vivant Tommy Up officially opens tomorrow? Well, here it is, in its non-beef glory, five ounces of fresh-ground chicken resting on a Martin's potato roll (a bun trend we fully support) and topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, potato chips and a "secret sauce." We have a photo of the beef burger, but after all of the burger porn earlier this week, we thought chicken would be a nice change of pace. While the burgers intrigue, it's the booze-spiked milkshakes that are really calling our name.

Last night Up and general manager Jon Edwards walked us through the space and gaw us the lowdown on some of the shakes and their pop culture inspirations from The Big Lebowski to Pulp Fiction.

The Caucasian
: Absolut vanilla, fresh vanilla bean, vanilla ice cream, and Kahlua
John Valdez: Patron, XO , chocolate ice cream and Kahlua
Jackrabbit Slim: Vanilla and chocolate ice creams, Maker's Mark

Edwards, who previously worked at Valanni, has been tinkering with additional recipes, including an "Anti Car Bomb" which involves vanilla ice cream, Jameson and Guinness. If you're a peanut butter fanatic, rest assured there is something in the works just for you.

P.Y.T. opens Friday, July 17 at 5 p.m.

P.Y.T. The Piazza at Schmidts, 1050 N. Hancock St. at Germantown Ave.; 215-268-7825

  • we werent planning on eating those chicken burgers, we were just going through kitchen drills when the picture was taken. the tomatos we are using for customers are organic and are more red then the lipstick on a high-priced escort.

  • I suspect that that tomato was bred to blend in with the other beige toppings, as well as the chicken itself.
