Di Bruno Brothers’ head honcho Emilio Mignucci tells us that the anticipated opening date of their wine bar at 930 S. 9th Street in the Italian Market (formerly Pronto) has been pushed back - way back. They had hoped to be open by August, but with the slow slog of the liquor license process, they have only just started to put out the call for construction bids. Mignucci says with September through December being the busiest time of the year for the Di Bruno stores, it would be unwise to debut the new spot until after the new year. When it finally does open, what might you find?

The menu will be mostly snackable with a focus on charcuterie and, of course, cheeses, as well as some larger dishes like pasta and a fish of the day. Kevin Giunta, executive chef of all of the Di Bruno operations will supervise. Mignucci says he’s trying to keep the wines under $25 a bottle and from $6 to $9 a glass, but he says it all depends on the value of the Euro; there will also be craft beers.

Mignucci, who is also the president of the Italian Market’s business association, explains that more restaurants are “what a business corridor like ours needs. If you go to Boston or New York, you’ll see that there are cafes, restaurants, shops stay open at night to receive people.” He hopes for the spot to be a space that neighbors will go “more than once a week, where we let them stay and hang out and be visible. The more we have of that, the better it will be.”
