Fall Preview: Where and What to Eat


It certainly hasn't been a typical sleepy summer for restaurants in Philadelphia this year. The openings have continued at a frenzied pace all summer long from a spate of burger joints (and the attendant burger wars) to gastropubs, seafood houses and swanky cocktail lounges. The good news is that The Economy appears to have had no effect on the number of openings; if anything, the quantity seems to have increased. The better news: it also appears to have had a delightful downward effect on price points. There are, at last count, nearly 40 restaurants scheduled to swing open their doors over the next three months and that's not counting new locations of already existing places including Jose Garces's hotly anticipated Village Whiskey, which will serve the Whiskey King burger, pictured above, Cook and Solomonov's Percy Street Barbecue and Stephen Starr's pizza place Stella. MidAtlantic will celebrate the intersection of the region's Pennsylvania Dutch cooking and the produce market stalls that ran from the top of Market Street to the banks of the Delaware river in the 1700s."
