You may have noticed we’re currently in the throes of a mixology craze, with the old-school-new-school drinks at Village Whiskey, the artful vodka-free concoctions at The Franklin and, well, Southwark - which isn’t new, but deserves a mention for making killer cocktails without getting precious about it. If you’re a bartender keen on honing your technique or just an ambitious amateur, there’s an upcoming event that may interest you.

Libation Laboratories - a new cocktail consulting company helmed by West Chester restaurateur Brynne Ashton and Michael Callahan, head bartender at San Francisco’s Gitane - is holding its first ever workshop at Beautiful Blooms in Liberties Walk at 1021 N. 3rd St. on Monday, September 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Callahan will make ten cocktails and will cover hot cocktail trends, techniques for building cocktails to pair with menus and creating a “farm-to-table” cocktail menu. It’s $50 to participate - the price includes drink tastings and hors d’oeuvres. RSVP online at info@libationlaboratories.com.
