More Rumor Mongering From Tommy Up: Tommy Up and Co. May Take Over Teplitzky’s at the Chelsea

Yesterday, Tommy Up dropped this gem on his Twitter: “also, we might be taking over teplitzky’s at the chelsea in AC.” Followed by: “if we last longer at teplitzky’s then starr did (one year) i would like a spirit award from the ac press.” So there’s that. [@tommyup]

Update: The Chelsea wrote in to set the record straight. Their statement:

The Chelsea Atlantic City and Starr Restaurants Announce Changes For Fall 2009
Atlantic City’s Chelsea Hotel to Manage Food and Beverage Operations Internally

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (September 8, 2009) - Effective today, Starr Restaurants and The Chelsea Hotel have ended the management contract under which Starr Restaurants oversaw food and beverage operations for The Chelsea Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ and the hotel’s two restaurants Chelsea Prime and Teplitzky’s. Concluding their successful two year relationship, Starr Restaurants has turned control of The Chelsea’s food and beverage management over to The Chelsea’s onsite management team.

“Starr Restaurants have made The Chelsea renowned for excellence in food and beverage,” said Curtis J. Bashaw, Developer and Co-Managing partner of The Chelsea. “I thank Stephen Starr for his vision and ongoing personal involvement throughout the first year of operation. I also thank Stephen’s entire team for their relentless dedication to excellence and for identifying and training the team that will continue to run our restaurants, bars, catering service and kitchens,” continued Bashaw.

Stephen Starr of Starr Restaurants says, “With The Chelsea set up for success, we are confident in The Chelsea team’s ability to manage these venues in keeping with the high standards for which Starr Restaurants is known. We look forward to collaborating with Cape Resorts Group, developer and owner of The Chelsea, on future projects.”

Adding:

The Chelsea re-affirms that Teplitzky’s will be managed by the The Chelsea’s onsite management team, most specifically Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Director, Thomas Von Muenster and Teplitzky’s General Manager, Karalee DiOrio, both of whom have been involved with the restaurant since the pre-opening stages.
