Restaurant Week (part one) is upon us! The bi-annual promotion began last night and continues through September 25 (with the exception of Saturday, September 19) and this time around, includes a lunch option. So what happens now? Well, if you weren’t an early bird with your reservation-making, prepare to not eat before 11 p.m. at the most highly coveted restaurants. Or you can tune into our Restaurant Week counter-programming, wherein we provide you with a daily option that is not necessarily a part of Restaurant Week, but is still a worthy bargain. Today, we feature Rittenhouse BYOB Matyson, which has lopped $10 off of their $45 weekly five-course tasting menu to bring it down to $35. For the same price, that’s two more courses than the regular Restaurant Week offerings. What’s the deal?
Matyson’s chef Ben Puchowitz tells us this tasting option, which he’s called the Recession Menu, is inspired by “upscale versions of ‘poor man’s food.’ The restaurant will offer it starting tonight and run it through Thursday, September 17. Here’s the menu:
Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup
Lancaster County cheddar & smoked corn
Fish Tacos
Hiramasa, roasted tomatillo salsa, avocado mousse
Ramen Noodle Bowl
Shrimp, crab, mussels, Vietnamese pho broth, mint & cilantro
Meat & Potatoes
Braised beef short rib, truffled mash, candied red cabbage
Ice Cream Sandwich
Mint chocolate chip
