Beck’s Will Bring Fresh Beignets and a ‘Train Wreck’ to Reading Terminal Market

Beck’s Cajun Cafe, a New Orleans-inspired stall coming to Reading Terminal Market, is shooting for an October 26 opening, chef-owner Bill Beck tells us. He also gave us a preview of the menu, which includes breakfast and lunch items. He’ll be making beignets, the classic French doughnut fritters, from scratch and frying them to order, plus serving other traditional Cajun and Creole fare.

In addition to traditional gumbo, Beck, who previously helmed Pompano Grill, has a lineup of po’boys, from the classic fried oyster and shrimp versions to a specialty po’boy he’s calling The Train Wreck, in honor of Reading Terminal Market, which includes andouille, steak, salami in addition to lettuce, tomato, pickle and a Creole mayonnaise on a French baguette.

For breakfast, there’s a po’boy with tasso ham, egg and cheese and an n eggs benedict-inspired dish prepared with poached eggs, tasso ham, grilled cornbread and a Tabasco hollandaise sauce.

Vegetarians are not given the shaft - Beck promises vegetarian versions of both gumbo and po’boys.
