The November issue of Esquire arrived on our doorstep yesterday, reeking of man perfume and informing us that Kate Beckinsale is, indeed, the sexiest lady in all the land. It's also the annual "best new restaurants in America" issue and while Philly was shut out of that list, Meme chef David Katz is one of four "breakout chefs to watch," for being a "damned good chef in a damn small restaurant."

  • Eat at his restaurant and then talk. Meme is what good food should be.

  • Philly Greg, David Katz is one of the best chefs in Philadelphia, and easily the best at executing French-influenced food in the city. Maybe you should try it before you knock it. A close friend of mine, one of the most critical foodies I have ever met, cannot get enough of this food. This man is the real deal. As for closing two other restaurants, Katz is very much a perfectionist. If it isn't working the way he wants it to, he is principled enough to leave it behind. You have got to respect that. And, finally, I cannot remember a time I have passed Meme on a weekend and seen more than an empty table or two before 845 or 9. And to make it clear, I have no relation to Katz other than being a very big fan of his talent.

  • I was hoping it was not Megan Fox. Kate was a relief. I didn't get to read it yet, but Esquire is like religion in our apartment. Any time I want to cite support, I just tack on, "Esquire said that..." Katz is awesome.
