First, the good news - if you’re a food writing fan, two noteworthy authors will be in town tonight reading from their books. Now, the bad news - they take place on opposite sides of town at roughly the same exact time, so you’ll have to pick one. The subject matter may make it an easy choice for vegetarians - one author focuses her love of butchery while the other will discuss how he gave up eating meat. The former is Julie Powell of Julie and Julia fame, who will be discussing her new tome, Cleaving: A Story of Marriage, Meat and Obsession at the Free Library at 7:30 p.m. The event is free. Meanwhile, over at the Penn Bookstore, Jonathan Safran Foer will be hawking Eating Animals, his meditation on going vegetarian, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
