What to Eat at Sweet Freedom, Opening Today

Gluten-, soy-, egg-, dairy- and refined sugar-free (and vegan, don’t forget vegan!) bakery Sweet Freedom opens its doors today. As we wrote previously, owners Heather Esposito and Allison Lubert are both certified holistic health counselors; Esposito trained as a chef at the Natural Gourmet Institute in Manhattan. They’re hoping to cater not only to the gluten-free and allergy crowd, but also to folks that are interested in baked goods that are prepared with more “health-supportive” ingredients.

Rather than refined sugars, they’re using agave nectar, coconut sugar and maple syrup for sweetening; coconut milk for dairy and a variety of non-wheat flours. Baked goods include cupcakes, fruit crisp bars, chocolate chip cookies and macaroons. They also take special orders for cakes and pies. View the entire menu here.
