Chef-owner Michael Schulson tells us outdoor dining is coming to Sampan. The restaurant was just approved for a sidewalk cafe seating license; they’re just waiting on tables and chairs they’ve ordered to come in, but it’s the hidden courtyard behind the restaurant that’s really going to be something to see.

It’s currently under construction, but the enclosed space behind the restaurant will feature a dedicated bar, seating for roughly 30 guests and a roof covering for all-weather dining. In addition, Schulson is also hiring graffiti artists to create murals on the high walls of the buildings facing the courtyard. With Raw’s hidden courtyard just around the corner and APO’s rooftop deck down the block, the Midtown Gayborhood is becoming quite the off-street outdoor dining destination.

Schulson says he hopes to have both the sidewalk and the courtyard open in about two weeks.
