First Shot Fired in the Cheesesteak Pretzel Wars

Roger Miller, owner of Miller’s Twist at Reading Terminal Market told Good Day Philadelphia last Thursday that he’s been serving a cheesesteak pretzel at his stand since opening 18 months ago. This was one day after local chain Philly Pretzel Factory’s Marty Ferrill appeared on the same show to talk about his company’s own Frankensnack, which splices together the two local delicacies. The company claims its amalgamation of chipped beef, cheese and pretzel dough was the result of more than a year of research and development. Miller told Good Day that his version is made by his Amish employees, and that in addition to it, he also serves bacon, egg and cheese, and sausage and egg-stuffed pretzels as breakfast items.
