Tonight Mayor Micahel Nutter will proclaim June 30th Hoagie Heritage Day just as skilled sandwich-smiths from Wawa unwrap their colossal four-ton hoagie at the steps of the Art Museum. The giant hoagie, which caps the daylong Hoagie Day celebration that Wawa is hosting as part of its Welcome America sponsorship, will stretch a mile and a quarter down the parkway. It is being constructed with 792 pounds of Italian ham, prosciutto, and Genoa salami and an additional 880 pounds of provolone cheese. Wawa has dispatched 100 of its employees to help create the sandwich, which the public is invited to enjoy following the Mayor’s proclamation. [Welcome America via UWISHUNU]
