Still in its infancy and already denounced as the worst idea ever imagined, the PLCB is claiming that its wine kiosk pilot program is a success, but patrons of the two supermarkets in Pennsyltucky’s hinterlands where the Orwellian apparatuses are being tested think otherwise, according to WHYY. PLCB, which is rarely something that comes to mind when you hear the words “state-of-the-art,” bases its claim on an average of 80 bottles sold each day at stores where the kiosks are in place. Citing the intrusive nature of the breathalyzer test that’s mandatory for prospective customers, those who’ve tried the system out reportedly say they’re doubtful about going through the ordeal a second time. One customer noted that she had “never gone through so much trouble for a bottle of wine before,” and that the entire experience was “kind of a hassle.” [WHYY]
