This past spring’s Pukemon incident at Citizen’s Bank Park is but one of the many episodes that have galvanized the reputation of Philly’s sports fans as the most obnoxious and incendiary in the nation. Fans behavior here is so harsh that even the most die-hard soccer hooligans would likely find it offensive. So it’s no wonder that the always cool-as-a-cucumber Chef Jose Garces is stepping forward as an unofficial spokesperson for city in its bid to lure the FIFA World Cup to Philadelphia for either the 2018 or 2022 tournaments. He’s a wise choice; he’s easily recognizable as the Food Network’s latest Iron Chef and it’s highly unlikely that he’s ever lobbed an ice-laden snowball at Santa Claus, nor pelted a player on the field with a D-cell battery.
