In sad news, Grub Street learned from a tipster that WHYY is pulling the plug on A Chef’s Table, the locally produced public radio program that’s been keeping foodies up to date on the latest culinary trends since 1996. A call to the station confirms it. Saturday’s broadcast will be the last. “Times have changed and the media environment is changing,” WHYY’s senior publicist Brian Rossiter told Grub Street. “We’re trying to devote our resources to other programs.” Namely a new web-based magazine format called Fit, which will have a broader focus than Chef’s Table. It will cover food, but will also feature information about nutrition and healthy lifestyles, according to Rossiter.

All the staff from the two-time James Beard Award-nominated A Chef’s Table will be retained by WHYY to work on other programming initiatives, Rossiter said. Host Chef Jim Coleman will continue working with the station on the TV program Healthy Flavors.
