In what’s undoubtedly the restaurant upset of the ages, Amada, the Spanish tapas palace that served as the launch pad for Jose Garces’ empire, has unseated Stephen Starr’s Buddakan as the Zagat Survey’s Most Popular restaurant in Philadelphia, according to the 2011 Philadelphia Restaurants survey released yesterday. Buddakan, which has held the title for as long as anyone can remember, came in at a close second. Marc Vetri’s eponymous flagship bested the Top Food category, while the Fountain took top honors for Best Décor and Best Service. The survey’s results also reveal that sucky economic conditions are keeping surveyors from dining out more frequently, but on the flipside many are reportedly finding better deals at restaurants when they do splurge.
