John and Kira’s Chocolates, the Philly-based artisan confectioners who’ve been tempering an Alice Waters-esque social mission with Willy Wonka whimsy since launching their scrumdillyicious enterprise in 2000, have rolled out new seasonally inspired additions to their line of chocolaty goodness. Like all their products, the latest entrants to their line are made with fresh, natural and oftentimes locally procured ingredients. Spiced Pumpkins, petite, orange-colored chocolate shells filled with real pumpkin, ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon-spiked caramel, which deliver the familiar taste of thanksgiving in one bite, utilize biodynamic ginger grown by Ellen Sugawara on the island of Malakai. A new Mighty Mint Urban Garden Chocolate Bar uses fresh mint grown by students at Philly’s University City High School. Chocolate Cherries, combine naturally dried tart cherries with a decadent dark chocolate ganache. Other new products include Hazelnut Toffee, Pistachio Toffee and a Rosemary Orange Urban Garden Bar, which are all available through the John And Kira’s website.
