This Weekend: Where to Go For Tricks and Treats

Tonight starting at 7 p.m., the folks at Capogiro’s University City location are donning costumes and teaming up with Milton, DE’s Dogfish Head Brewery to kick off the Halloween weekend. With the help of Dogfish Head, Capogiro has created a special gelato with the seasonal favorite Punkin Ale. Along with it, they’re also serving up an assortment of beer floats made with a selection of some of Dogfish Head’s most obscure yields. Across town Stephen Starr’s El Rey is getting in on the ghoulish action with a traditional Day of the Dead alter, featuring flowers, fruits, bread and candles that wil be on display until November 2. Throughout the weekend, El Rey will also serve a bewitching tasting menu that includes guacamole with grasshoppers, brain quesadillas and blood sausage salad.

• Tomorrow, Starr’s other Mexican spot El Vez will celebrate El Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with a Dulce Vida Tequila-sponsored costume party and late night happy hour featuring passed hors d’oeurves, drink specials and complimentary tequila tastings from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

• On Sunday McGillin’s Olde Ale House is celebrating all day, starting with what its billing as a Frightfully Delicious Brunch, featuring Bloody Mary specials. Later the bar and restaurant will offer beer specials staring at 5 p.m. and costume karaoke at 9 p.m.

• South Philly’s Cantina Los Caballitos will host it’s fourth annual Halloween party. Costumed customers will be treated to happy hour drink and food specials from 12 noon until 2 a.m. DJs Joe Kusy and Ian Galloway will be spinning a spooky mix of 60’s rock, bubblegum, soul and psychedelic tunes.

• Also Sunday, Mugshots will debut its new location at 2831 West Girard Ave. From 3 p.m to 6 p.m. Customers in Halloween costumes will receive complimentary cocoa, cider, muffins and cupcakes.
