We’ve been hearing rumors of a possible partnership between Stephen Starr and Talula’s Table’s Aimee Olexy longer than we’ve been getting reports that Shola Olunloyo’s Speck is just a few short weeks away from opening. But this time it sounds like the rumors are true. Olexy, whose Talula’s Table remains one of the country’s toughest tables to secure a reservation, confirmed with the Insider that she’s opening a restaurant at Starr’s shuttered Washington Square next spring. You might recall that she did a three-night pop-up at the indoor-outdoor space back in June. Washington Square, which is no stranger to top culinary talent — both Marcus Samuelsson and Frankiln Becker have helmed its kitchen — closed in November 2007.

The unnamed restaurant with Olexy is the latest project in what can only be described as a major growth spurt for Starr. For those keeping score at home, some Starr projects in the works include a British-style pub at 18th and Sansom, Il Pittore, his Italian restaurant with Chris Painter, retrofitting another restaurant at the New York Historical Society, and a New England-style seafood joint on North Broad. While no one’s officially written them off yet, there are few rumblings these days about a beer garden off of Girard Avenue in Fishtown and the project at the former Broad Street Diner.
