Joey Campanaro, the celebrated New York restaurateur and South Philly native who recently opened the Queen Village haunt Village Belle with his brother Louis, just added gravy meatball sliders to the restaurant’s menu. It’s a homecoming of sorts for the diminutive sandwich. The dish, which has been a popular mainstay on the menus at The Little Owl and was later carried over to Kenmare’s at the request of partner Paul Sevigny (yeah, Chloe’s brother), is based on a recipe the Campanaro boys learned from their grandmother, Rosie Bova. Each $9 order features three beef, veal, pork and pecorino meatballs cooked in gravy and served on housemade garlic buns.
