Resurrection Ale House, the well-received Grays Ferry Ave. gastropub from Memphis Taproom and Local 44’s Brendan Hartranft and Leigh Maida, has done the unthinkable. Its chef, Joey Chmiko, has pulled its storied panko-encrusted twice-fried chicken, a dish immortalized by Andrew Knowlton in his roundup in Bon Appetit last June of the “10 Best Places for Fried Chicken,” from the menu, Meal Ticket reports. This is the bird that sparked Philly’s newfound fascination with the Southern-fired specialty. Since RAH first charmed the fooderati with its finger-licking-goodness, everyone from Matt Levin to Jose Garces to Jennifer Carroll has tried to come up with a formidable rival. But with the leader of the flock ducking out now, Grub Street can’t help but wonder if this means fired chicken’s moment is up?
