A newly unearthed trove of letters written by J.D. Salinger shows that the late Catcher in the Rye author favored Burger King over other fast-food chains, the AP reports. The correspondence, which sheds new light on one of the most shadowy periods of the reclusive author’s life, was discovered in the London home of Donald Hartog, whom Salinger befriended as a teenager. In one particular letter, he makes a case for Burger King’s Whopper, stating that it’s “better than just edible.” (Others reveal he also enjoyed listening to the Three Tenors and admired John McEnroe.) He’s probably turning in his grave right now wishing he’d been alive long enough to try one of BK’s jalapeño-and-cheese-stuffed steakhouse burgers. [AP via NPR]
