Snow Days

Where to Toast Tonight’s Snowstorm and Pray For a Snow Day Tomorrow

There’s a snowstorm brewing and depending on where you are, it might’ve started already. The forecast calls for significant snowfall tonight, with flurries starting between 4 and 6 p.m. and picking up steam overnight for an estimated 4 to 8 inches of snow in the city and as much as a foot in the suburbs. If you’re thinking SNOW DAY, you’re not alone. To toast the coming whiteout, Biba has a case of Sekt, Nigl, ‘07 (Kremstal, Austria) at the ready. For the uninitiated, Sekt is an Austrian-made Champagne-style sparkling wine. Over at its sister — spunky little cousin, if you prefer — bar, Tria near Rittenhouse Square, they’re serving up Terrapin’s Wake ‘N’ Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout with oatmeal raisin cookies from The Famous 4th Street Cookie Co. And over at Tria’s Wash West location, they’re tapping a barrel of Dogfish Head’s celebrated Olde School Barleywine.

Standard Tap is offering two beer flights tonight as its Snowstorm special. One is a flight of stouts for $6 that features Twin Lakes Tavern Stout, Sly Fox Oatmeal Stout, and Flying Fish’s Exit 13. The other they’re calling a Fancy Flight and offering for $5. It features Flying Fish’s Grand Cru, Troeg’s Dreamweaver Wheat, and Victory Golden Monkey.

Sierra Nevada is taking over the taps at Resurrection Ale House tonight, according to the Beer Lass. Beers on offer include Tumble Autumn Brown Ale, 30th Anniversary Fritz And Ken’s Ale, 30th Anniversary Charlie, Fred And Ken’s Ale, 30th Anniversary Jack and Ken’s Ale, Estate Brewers Harvest Ale, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and Hoptimum (a Beer Camp Imperial IPA).

The Khyber Pass Pub is doing its Amnesty Tuesday. It’s not really a snowstorm special, but if your return an ill-gotten pint glass to the bar, your first draft is half off.
