Back in December Grub Street told you that the LCB was pulling the plug on their still spanking-new wine kiosks. As foretold by the countless naysayers, who among other things called the wine vending machines the “worst idea ever,” when first rolled out last summer, the machines malfunctioned, dispensing the wrong products, or in some cases, failed to dispense altogether. Now after more than a month on ice and after an extensive battery of testing, Scranton’s Times-Tribune reports that the state’s liquor control agency is giving the controversial contraptions a second chance. It has fired up two of its 30 idle kiosks this week, and expects to have 100 in operation n the months to come. Based on the success of the first round, we can only wonder how long they will last this time? [Times-Tribune]
