Listen up lardos, there’s a summer of deep fat-fried love on the horizon, and it’s going revolve around Federal Donuts, a new joint venture from restaurateurs Michael Solomonov and Stephen Cook, BODHi Coffee owners Thomas Henneman and Bob Logue, and local food scribe/bartender/server Felicia D’Ambrosio. With just ten or so seats, Federal Donuts will operate primarily as a take-out spot, offering a variety of fresh made donuts and Stumptown Coffee in the morning and half and whole fried chickens in the afternoon and evening.

Solomonov, who is crazy about Korean fried chicken, plans to serve a handful of different fried chicken options that include classic crunchy, black garlic and date molasses glazed, and mango, pickle and passion fruit glazed. The donuts will run the gamut from plain, glazed and chocolate to vanilla cardamom custard and Key Lime with graham cracker streusel.

Federal Donuts, 1219 South Second Street, no phone yet.
