The Denver Daily News reports that two pieces of almost identical legislation are being batted around the House and Senate that call for cutting excise taxes in half for small, independent craft breweries. This doesn’t mean places like Sly Fox can just pull a G.E. and stop paying their taxes, but this is still welcome news for the craft-beer industry, especially during a week when Anheuser-Busch InBev swallowed up Chicago’s Goose Island Beer Co. almost at the same minute that Anthony Bourdain started blabbing on Twitter that Discovery was pulling the plug on Brew Masters, its show about Dogfish Head and its founder Sam Calagione, on the grounds that “Big Beer” was threatening to pull its advertising from the station.
