Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Mike Turzai, the guy who’s leading the charge to privatize the state’s liquor stores, has been holding a grudge against the LCB for 20 years. Why? At a debate Monday at the Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, he said it was because he was unable to procure a bottle of Bailey’s Irish Cream — he claims it was for his mom — from a liquor store once on St. Patrick’s Day, the Inquirer reports. The debate itself sounds like it was a real snoozer, consisting of replays of the same old arguments for and against privatizing the state’s 620 liquor stores. But Turzai’s admitted grudge and his rationalization for holding it sounds like it might’ve been good for some laughs. Still what bothers us is, can we trust a guy who would buy Bailey’s over a bottle of Jameson on St. Patrick’s Day with making decisions on how an entire state will buy booze? [Inquirer]
