Say So Long to Fork & Barrel

Fork & Barrel, the well-received East Falls destination for rare Euro craft beers, wild game and dramatic candlelit ambiance, closed last night. It was open for just a short seven months. According to a prepared statement issued earlier today, owners Matt Swartz, his wife Colleen and Matt Scheller who just opened Farmers’ Cabinet on Walnut Street, decided to close because their newest venture shares “so many of the same elements.” In addition to shuttering Fork & Barrel, the trio is also closing Tap & Table, their gastropub in Emmaus, PA. They plan to bring that concept to Philadelphia “in the coming months.” As for their Bookstore speakeasy in Bethlehem? That will remain open and stay where it is. We suppose they received the memo about pretend-Prohibition’s repeal.
