Sherman Sues the Fork & Barrel Crew

From the moment news first broke about Fork & Barrel’s abrupt closing, we knew it wouldn’t be the last we heard of the matter. Today Foobooz confirms our hunch with a report that the restaurant’s landlord Mark Sherman has filed a lawsuit against the restaurant’s operators, Matthew and Colleen Swartz. And surprisingly the suit isn’t even about the couple’s unexpected departure from F&B.; Rather it alleges they fell foul of an agreement they entered with Sherman for another East Falls spot, Franco’s Trattoria. Honestly we can’t tell if this is the proverbial other shoe dropping, or a new front opening in a long battle. Despite the fact that the Swartzes bailed on two seemingly successful businesses at nearly the same time, and have a history of litigation tied to shuttered restaurants, Matthew Swartz is quoted saying that this latest lawsuit is “frivolous” and he has “a lot more exciting projects on the way!
