For a fete that celebrates the nerdiest of nerd stuff, the Philadelphia Science Festival, a citywide collaboration that kicks off two weeks of events designed to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers today, actually has some pretty cool events lined up for food and drink geeks. Tonight following a science story slam, Kite & Key Tavern is hosting an after-party that will see debut of the special beer Yards Brewing Co. brewed up specifically for the festival. Along with the keg’s tapping the party will also reveal the custom brew’s nerdy name.

After tonight’s beer bash, things pick back up again on Monday. That’s when the Continental plays host to the festival’s Flavor Tripping, presented by scientists from the Monell Center. The tasting event will let guests experience the wonders of Miracle Fruit, the mesmerizing berries that alter the sense of taste when ingested, making things like lemons taste as sweet as chocolate.

That same night National Mechanics has a science-y quizzo scheduled and South Philly Tap Room hosts Drinking and Thinking: An Introduction to Biomedical Ethics, a discussion about life, death, and our use of biomedical technology.
