If you’ve been holding your breath awaiting the opening of Stephen Starr’s Frankford Hall, you may want to exhale or be prepared to hold it a little longer. Contrary to what Grub Street said last week, the Fishtown beer garden, which will be situated on Frankford Ave., just north of Girard, is now slated to open on May 17, according to a prepared statement. The indoor-outdoor space won’t necessarily be a fancy affair. It will espouse a more casual vibe than other Starr entities with exposed brick facades, reclaimed industrial materials and ping pong tables. However, with communal picnic table seating for 160 inside and an additional 240 more in the outdoor, Linden tree-lined gravel courtyard, it will be huge. The food will be of the beer-friendly Bavarian persuasion. Pretzels, housemade bratwurst, weisswurst and käsekrainer, schnitzel, spaetzle and sauerkraut will be served from a walk-counter. Beers offered will run the gamut from American craft selections to traditional German styles.
