You could argue that President Obama’s orders to use deadly force to take out Osama Bin Laden and the disclosure of his long form birth certificate might have something to do with the Tea Party movement’s waning influence. But that’s not the reason why Prism Brewing Company, the North Wales-based startup that made its first big splash last summer, has changed the name of one of its flagship beers, Tea Party Pale Ale. The brewery’s founder, Rob DeMaria, this week told Pour Curator he never intended to align his brewery or any of its beers with the right-wing political movement, even though the beer in question was enthusiastically embraced by Tea Party supporters and even received a mention on Andrew Breitbart’s Big Government website when first introduced last Memorial Day.

In an effort to distance his beer, which gets its name from the addition of tea leaves for flavoring during the brewing process, from the Tea Party — and for that matter, all politics — DeMaria is changing the name to Par Tea.
