Liquor Store Privatization Is Dead

Even if those wine kiosks are the worst idea ever, and even if they’ve proved a dismal failure, the LCB is not going anywhere anytime soon. That’s what beer and booze scribe Lew Bryson is reporting, anyway. According to his always fun Why The PLCB Should Be Abolished blog, the move to privatize liquor sales in Pennsylvania is dead. The House last week moved ahead on bills that would amend the state’s Liquor Code to allow more flexibility on sales and liquor store hours, and permit the agency to hire employees who are not Civil Servants. Essentially, these are the recommendations the LCB put forth as efforts to modernize as opposed to being sold off. Bryson states that House Republicans are caving to union pressure and shelving moves to pass booze sales off to the private sector. [noplcb]
