Matyson’s Chef Ben Puchowitz Wants to Give You Free Beer

On the surface, Matyson’s dinner on June 28 with Sly Fox seems like any other beer pairing affair. The chef cooks food. The brewers brings some suds. Everyone eats and drinks and has a good time. But as Sly Fox rep and gal-about-town Suzanne Woods was quick to point out, under Pennsylvania’s demented booze laws, it’s kind of illegal for a BYOB to serve beer. That’s why Matyson’s Chef Ben Puchowitz bought all the beer for the dinner, and will pour it complimentary with each of its courses. It’s also worth noting that he’s welcoming Memphis Taproom’s Chef Jesse Kimball — who he used to work side by side with — back to Matyson’s kitchen for the night. “It’s kind of like a homecoming for him,” Woods told Grub Street.

The five-course dinner will pair a selection of Sly Fox brews — some from cans and others from big bottles — with Punchowitz and Kimball’s creations. The cost is $75 per person and reservations, which are filling up quickly, are a must.
