Taqueria del Sol, an Atlanta-based fast-cas Mexican chain, has its sights set on Philly and its surrounding suburbs, according to a prepared statement. The 11-year-old company, which was founded by Mike Klank, has been named “Top American Restaurant” by Bon Appétit and Food Network, and was nominated for the Beard Foundation’s Excellence for Outstanding Restaurateur award. Its secured a franchisee for the Philly area, and expects to make its debut early next year. A company rep told Grub Street this morning that the franchisees are currently negotiating leases for locations in Center City and Springfield, Delaware County.
