Where to Eat and Drink While Celebrating Bastille Day

Though the annual Tastykake assault on Marie Antoinette (actually London Grill’s Terry McNally in costume) and all the other riotous revelry at the Eastern State Pen that we typically associate with Bastille Day – at least for the past 17 years anyway – doesn’t go down until Saturday, Francophiles all over town are celebrating France’s National Day on its proper day, which is today. Le Bec-Fin, perhaps the Frenchiest of Philly’s French restaurants, is hosting a sidewalk festival, with champagne, crepes and French pastries under a tent outside. Inside, Chef Georges Perrier is serving a $25 prix fixe steak frites special until 9:30 tonight.

• Across town at Bistrot La Minette, Peter Woolsey is serving a multi-course French Barbecue dinner for $35 ($50 with wine pairings). Some of the dishes include rillettes de canard (duck pate), a choice of grilled salmon, pork chop, chicken or roasted lamb leg with Tomates à la Provençale, gratin dauphinois, and haricots verts. Plus the restaurant will screen Micmacs as part of its Summer Movies Al Fresco series.

• Tonight staring at 7 p.m., the Fairmount neighborhood plays host to the French Fling Bar Crawl with Belgian Café, Bridgid’s, London Grill and a bunch of other restaurants offering specials on Kronenbourg 1664 and other French drinks and food.
