Why Is New York’s Restaurant Girl Telling People In Philly Where to Eat?

Despite being the home base for two Iron Chefs, a Top Chef winner, a Top Chef finalist, multiple James Beard award-winning chefs and dozens of nationally recognized restaurants, newly anointed Philly.com/food video correspondent Danyelle Freeman, aka New York-based blogger and author Restaurant Girl, told NBC Philadelphia yesterday that the city “really hasn’t had its moment of food yet.” A gaff? Sure. But cut her some slack. She’s not from here. It’s really not her fault that she has trouble pronouncing our restaurants’ names and ignores the fact that the only thing we pride ourselves on more than the Phillies is this “moment of food” we’ve been enjoying since our first “restaurant renaissance” in the ‘70s. What’s got us scratching our heads is, why on Earth would Philadelphia Media Network, parent to the Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com, turn to an outsider, with a delicate at best grasp on the city’s dining scene, to provide restaurant coverage?
