Xilantro Quiets Down Its Dining Room

After opening Xilantro in late May owner Luis Marin quickly realized he had a problem on his hands. The modern Mexican restaurant was crazy loud. Customers and staff both complained that when busy, the restaurant’s noise level was bordering on unbearable. “People would walk in and comment that it was too loud,” Marin told Grub Street. “It became an immediate priority.” Having just spent a fortune to get the restaurant open, Marin wanted the remedy to require minimal renovations. “We did not want to disturb the esthetic of the design,” he said. The solution? He had ceiling mounted “clouds” installed to deaden the restaurant’s din, and had additional soundproofing installed on the dining room’s soffits. In the coming days, he expects to hang new window treatments to absorb more of the troublesome noise. He added that so far the measures have paid off. “There is a significant improvement,” Marin said. “Customers have even commented on it.”
