It’s Game Over For PLCB’s ‘Worst Idea Ever’

It’s looking like the end may be near for the LCB’s long and painfully embarrassing experiment with wine kiosks. The Inky reports today that the state’s beleaguered booze board has had it with the machines’ owners, the (no surprise here) politically well connected Conshohocken-based Simple Brands, which it alleges owes the state a $1 million. If Simple Brands doesn’t pony up the loot within the next 45 days the LCB is pulling the plug. Sure, its a tremendously awkward situation for the state agency, and will surely provide plenty ammunition for State Rep. Mike Turzai and other privatization hawks who are foaming at the mouth to pick the board apart. But it’s no great loss for anyone else. From the get-go, the experiment was seen as foolhardy and was ridiculed as the ”worst idea ever.” [Inquirer]
