Federal Donuts, the donuts and fried chicken venture from Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook, may be a short ways away from a proper opening, but it will make its debut at tomorrow night’s FEASTIVAL fundraiser for Philadelphia Live Arts & Philly Fringe. The shop’s cocoa and orange blossom donuts, which will be served hot and rolled in custom sugar blends developed by Zahav spice guru Lior Lev Sercarz of La Boite a Epice, will be featured among the fundraiser’s massive spread. “We’ll be making fresh donuts to order, on site,” Solomonov told Grub Street. “Feastival will be the first opportunity to get a taste of Federal Donuts.” The fundraiser will also serve as a sort of coming out party for what Solomonov describes as the Federal Donuts’ “donut robot,” which he promised to keep a lid on until the event.
