Week two of Restaurant Week is upon us, and there’s hardly been a chirp of delight or disdain about it so far, which we chalk up as indifference. In the future, Philadelphians will be certain of three things: Death, taxes and a twice-annual Restaurant Week. Well, and maybe some rogue restaurant week offerings, too. Like the “Sympathy For the Restaurant Industry” late night deals the good folks at Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co. are putting out there this week to comfort and relieve exhausted restaurant workers. “I’ve worked during Restaurant Week at a couple of different places over the years,” the Franklin Mortgage’s Colin Shearn told Grub Street. “I know how bad it can be.”
Starting tonight and running through Thursday night, Shearn and the rest of the Franklin Mortgage crew will be serving a selection of thirst-quenching and rejuvenating drinks from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. for the Restaurant Week weary. The discounted elixirs range from the good-for-what-ails-you boilermaker (for just $5) to a Jack Rose to an old-school Daiquiri. Each specially-priced drink is aimed at providing maximum refreshment for people who’ve been on their feet all night and run ragged.
“We put the boilermaker first,” Shearn said. “Because that’s, like, the standard post-shift drink for the restaurant industry. That first drink needs to be refreshing. Especially after busy Restaurant Week night.”
