Where to Go For Tricks and Treats

Stephen Starr’s El Rey has some tricks and treats in order for some proper Halloween and Day of the Dead celebrations. Tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday, Chef Chef Dionicio Jimenez’s is serving a Dia de los Muertos menu. With things like blood sausage salad, veal heart and grasshopper tacos, and artichoke hearts with bone marrow, its meant to sound spooky, but we’re sure it will be something well worth sinking your teeth in to. Across the river, Iron Chef Garces and his crew at Distrito will get in on the Day of the Dead action on Wednesday with a “Dead or Alive” costume contest, and strolling tequila and street food tastings. The tasting portion of the extravaganza will set you back $35 in advance, $45 at the door, and everything else is pay as you go.

• And speaking of Garces, over at his JG Domestic, he has on display an enormous, 1,136 pound pumpkin that the architect for his Bucks County farm, Alex McCracken, grew. Along with showing off the humongous pumpkin, the restaurant is serving pumpkin gnocchi with broccoli rabe and shaved Sartori Stravecchio and pumpkin pie souffle with sweet cream ice cream and rum anglaise, while the Garces Trading Co. coffee kiosk pouring pumpkin lattes.

• And if you’re having problems coming up with a costume, the good folks at Fergie’s are making things a little easier for you. They’re hosting a good old fashioned toga party to celebrate both Halloween and the first anniversary of their open mic night with Phil D’Agostino and Ali Wadsworth. Expect “tons of Allagash” beers and other draughts from Dogfish Head and more.
