Marathon Grill Shutters; Matt Levin Resurfaces

The internets have been atwitter today with gossip coming from all directions about Marathon Grill, Cuba Libre’s owners and the resurfacing of Matt Levin. According to both Dan Gross and HughE Dillion, following a legal battle, the ages old relationship between Marathon Grill’s Cary Borish (and before him, his parents Cheryl and Jay Borish) and Bernard Spain and Murray Spain, the Mortimer and Randolph Duke-like entrepreneurs, who in addition to being credited with creating the ‘70s smiley face icon own the bricks that house Marathon’s 10th and Walnut location, has been dissolved. And, a new restaurant to be operated by Guest Check’s honchos, Barry Gutin and Larry Cohen, is already in the works. That restaurant, which doesn’t have a name, will reportedly be helmed by Matt Levin, who was last seen exiting Adsum, the restaurant he opened last year at 5th and Bainbridge that recently reopened as Tapestry. There’s no word yet on the concept or opening date, but we’ll keep you posted. [Dan Gross; Philly Chit Chat]
