No matter what the mercury may be trying to convince us of, make no mistake that the holiday season is upon us. We know this because Michael Solomonov has put out the word that he’s looking for recommendations for movies to screen during Zahav’s second annual Very Jewish Christmas, or in this case "An Even Jewisher Christmas," which is coming up on December 22. Like last year’s festivities, Solomonov and the Zahav crew will again celebrate the holiday by serving Israeli-inspired Chinese food and a movie. Dishes served during the two seatings will include Szechuan-style pork belly with shifka peppers and carrots; veal dumplings with harissa oil and cucumbers; salt and pepper sweetbreads with lo mein; and moo shu duck with walnuts, black garlic and carob.

As for the movie suggestions, send them Solomonov’s way via @zahavrestaurant.

In addition to the Very Jewish Christmas, Zahav is also celebrating Chanukah from December 20 to December 28. Each night a special $45 prix fixe menu will be available. Dishes will include hummus with glazed brisket, served with house-made laffa and a selection of salatim; celery root and green apple soup with smoked salmon burmuelos; a selection of Latkes, including Potato with labaneh, caviar and chive, Rutabega with smoked lamb belly and horseradish and Yam with English cheddar and apple; and young chicken al ha’esh with eggplant salad and sweet bulgur. The Chanukah menu will not be served on December 22 and December 25.
