While Jose Garces continues moving forward with the great westward expansion we mentioned yesterday, he’s getting some props for brunch here at home in Philly. Travel + Leisure ranked the Iron Chef’s Garces Trading Co. among “America’s Best Brunches.” Coming in at number 14 — right between Philly native Michael Schwartz’s Michael’s Genuine in Miami and Phoenix, AZ’s Over Easy Cafe — GTC earns praise for its pizza with duck fat sourdough crust, scotch eggs and hangar steak with poached egg and béarnaise. Across town, Philly’s other restaurant titan, Stephen Starr, gets some love from the Atlantic for Frankford Hall, which the magazine includes in its “Best Beer Gardens in America.”

Though Frankford Hall doesn’t make the cut on Draft magazine’s “America’s 100 best beer bars,” five other local watering holes are included. It shouldn’t come as a real surprise that longtime beer-wonk haunts like Monk’s, Grey Lodge Pub, and Standard Tap are mentioned, along with Eulogy and Memphis Taproom. Emmaus, PA’s Farmhouse is included, too.
