The dead walk amongst us. First it was burger chain Gino’s reanimated. Then the long gone Seafood Shanty. Now another ghost of munchies past, Levis, has been resuscitated, according to the Inky. The long defunct hot dog joint, which most credit for the fried fishcake and hot dog “Philly Combo” that artist/blogger Hawk Krall forever immortalized, hasn’t slung a proper wiener since closing at Sixth and South streets back in 1992. Elliott Hirsh (of Elliott's Amazing fame), who originally bought the shop before it closed to get the rights to its Champ Cherry soda, has decided to try his hand at franchising the Levis brand.
And he just launched the first location. The good news is, it serves a Philly Combo complete with the all important pepper hash, Champ Cherry and a variety of other dogs. The bad news? You’ll have to hike it out to Abington to get a taste.
