Debt Decimates Delilah’s

The remnants of the onetime entrepreneurial power-house Delilah Winder’s small, but once mighty empire is essentially nullified and rubbed off the map today. The Inky reports that bankruptcy proceedings in New Jersey have forced her two remaining outposts — one, the Reading Terminal Market flagship she opened in 1984 — to close. You may recall that back in December 2009 Winder, whose mac and cheese has cast its magic spell on everyone from Oprah Winfrey to Bobby Flay, was identified as one of the city’s top tax deadbeats. Two years before that, bankruptcy closed her Old City restaurant Bluezette. So needless to say, it’s been a rough couple of years for her.

Winder’s last two holdouts, the aforementioned spot at RTM and another at 30th Street Station are now both dark. There’s no word on whether either one will ever get a chance to re-open once the bankruptcy dust settles.
